Winning the Science Fair 2009
Every year a Science Fair competition is held in the school. The top Science Fair Projects in every science class are selected and rated by judges. This year I decided to do a more complex project. For those that are interested in my Science Fair Project, here is a picture of the poster and the 1st place medal.
My Science Fair Project is about computers. Since today’s computers and laptops are smaller and equipped with faster multi-processors, I tried to find out if replacing the original cooling system will lower the temperature of the CPU and improve computer’s performance. I tested with an Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo processor that has a speed of 2.4 GHz. The testing materials are a standard Intel heatsink and fan, as well as an aftermarket heatsink and fan. Along with the heatsinks and fans, I tested two different thermal compounds that consist of either silver or silicone. The CPU temperatures were measured during idle, loaded, overclocked idle, and overclocked loaded.
